Huh? Why would I want to learn?

Hey hey!

It's Bella here (not like there would be anybody else...) and I've created a new page explaining the reasons why we should learn another language. 

You get home from school and your brain is exhausted, and all you want to do is relax.

You open your laptop and sigh as you think about how hard you worked at school. You try to for get about that long, hard, math test you had or that undoable english pop-quiz.

When you open Safari or Firefox and look at people posting stuff on their blogs saying, "I'm doing Spanish lessons" or "Guess what? I'm taking German!" You think, "Why would anyone want to learn another language? I mean, we already have enough work in school and people want to learn more!? English is fine, and I'll get around fine without other languages."

Well, not really.

Here are the reasons why you should learn a language:

1) Learning a foreign country's language will help you if you visit there.

2) Speaking many languages will help you get a job. Companies like polyglots (people who speak many languages) to work for them.

3) Learning a second language can help you improve your first language by comparing the two.

4) Learning an endangered language will help keep it alive and not extinct.

So, any second thoughts about that?

Try learning Portuguese with me!

But how?
Well, there are steps to learning a language.

1) Try to learn some words, then use them in sentences.
2) Listen to music in your target language.
3) Try to hear people speaking it. What does it sound like? Do you notice any sounds?*
4) Purchase a book about the grammar, use Google Translate, or hire a teacher (hiring a teacher might be hard, though, so it's not needed.)

*Going to the country is a good idea if possible.

Some tips:
-Write down grammar rules in a notebook.
-Test yourself. Make flash cards.
- Learn one language at a time.
